Five for Friday: Spring Break Style

I haven't linked up in a while, but I figured this would be a great way to quickly document my Spring Break before I head back to work Monday (insert sad face).

First, did you notice my new look? Megan from A Bird in Hand Designs did my first design a few years ago, but I was ready for a little bit of a facelift. I also had her do my personal blog, and I'm in love with both designs! If you're in the market for a blog design, I highly recommend her. She's amazing!

It's rained most of the week, but we did have a beautiful weekend. Keagan decided he wanted to go fishing, so we headed out. He didn't catch a thing, but he had fun!

We had a busy, but fun Easter Sunday! Keagan really enjoyed his Easter Egg Hunt this year with the family, but we laughed because he was the first kid to just decide he was finished. We actually had to encourage him to keep looking by telling him there was candy in the eggs.

I made a mid-week trip to the gym for BodyPump. I love that class and am excited to be able to up my weights some and really shape back up after this baby gets here. I did snap a little gym selfie and was very proud to see that I really don't have all this extra "fat". It truly is just a big bump! This pregnancy has been a world of difference from my first, and I'm praying recovery is much easier because of it!

Of course, I haven't behaved all break. Some friends from work have been talking about going to this amazing dessert restaurant in Richmond for MONTHS, and we finally made a date of it Wednesday night. If you live anywhere near Richmond, go to Shyndigz. It's delicious! I was only able to finish half, so the rest is waiting patiently for me in the fridge. I wonder how long it will last, though...

We also met Steven's mom downtown for lunch yesterday at River City Diner. They always have great classics. Keagan was able to get pancakes while I enjoyed a huge beef hot dog. I love Richmond's restaurant scene, so it's probably a good thing I don't work downtown.

I'm bummed that break is almost over, especially since it was rainy and kind of yucky, but it's crazy to think that we're this close to the end of the year. And to think that in about eight weeks, I'll have my newest little bundle of joy with me! Time really is flying by!

Last day of break and a giveaway

I'm loving this beautiful spring weather today, and right now I'm ignoring the fact that I have to wake up early and go back to work tomorrow. Someone did count out the remaining days though: 49. I can do that.

These next two weeks are going to be kind of weird for me because it's time for 3rd nine weeks benchmark tests. Does your school test every nine weeks? It takes up SO much instructional time! I'll be busy helping test students in small groups or individually, so I will barely meet with my groups at all. Did I mention we have about 5 weeks left before SOLs? Eek!

Anyway, I wanted to let you know about a great little giveaway you should check out over at The Frizz in First Grade. I'm offering winner's choice of one item, plus there are 14 other bloggers donating to it. She's so sweet, and I hope you will go check out her blog! I was happy to help out.

It's WAY too pretty of a day to be cooped up inside, so that's all for now (plus I don't have much else to say). Time to enjoy the weather some more with my little man!

Doesn't that happy face just melt your heart?

Five for Friday, or Saturday - Spring Breakin'

fiveforfriday

I know, I know. It's Saturday! But I was on the road all day yesterday trying to get home from GA, so there was no time to blog then. Today will have to do. Don't hate!

1. This is Keagan's second Easter, but he was so small last year that we didn't do anything special (he couldn't even sit up on his own yet). Our church did their annual Easter egg hunt on Saturday, and Keagan loved it! He had so much fun picking up the eggs and only dumped them out once. Unfortunately (for me), we learned that my boy also loves Reese's eggs. I was very sad. I was hoping to steal them all!

2. It was my Spring Break week, so we headed down to see my family in Savannah. They thought we were getting in late Sunday night, but we woke up at 2 AM and drove through the early morning to make it there in time for church. My parents were SO excited, and my mom practically ran to the nursery after church was over to pick up Keagan.
Doesn't he look adorable in his little suit?

3. While we were in GA, we decided to go visit my best friend in my college town (Mercer University in Macon). We spent Wednesday touring campus because a LOT has changed since we graduated from there. They're even starting football up again after a 70 year hiatus. I almost bought a shirt that said, "Hibernation is over. The bears are hungry!" A little back story: Mercer was really good, actually undefeated their last season, but during WWII, they lost too much of the team and just never started back up. I know it won't be a great season, but I'm so excited to cheer for them in something other than basketball. I also learned that the team that beat them out of March Madness this year was none other than FGCU, the big Cinderella team this year! How cool is that?

Anyway, there's this statue of Jesse Mercer in the middle of campus, so we had to take Keagan to see him and rub his head. He wasn't so much of a fan, though.
"I've got my eye on you, dude..."
"But I will pat your head if mommy holds me!"

4. So, my friend Amanda is also a teacher (we were roomies and classmates all through college) and has recently started her own blog!

She's still just starting up, but I taught her a few tricks while I was there and could walk her through it a little easier. Go pay her a visit and leave her some love. She teaches 1st grade and has some great ideas!

And isn't her button so cute? I made it for her!

5. Today is going to keep with the pace. We're going to a birthday party later this morning, and then I'm going to the Bizaar Bazaar here in Richmond. I've never been, but everyone says it's awesome! There are lots of local shops, and prices are supposed to be really good. I can tell you more about it when I get back. Now I should get ready for the day though!

Currently April

I wasn't planning on doing any posts except for the one I have scheduled for tomorrow since I'm on break (and down in GA with my family), but I forgot about Farley's linky. And you know this is my favorite linky! Plus everyone's napping right now, and it doesn't take long to put this one together.

Listening: Like I said, everyone's napping (well except my dad who's working on his computer, and mom's at work. Her break was last week). My parents have a grandfather clock that was passed down to it, and it's so relaxing to just listen to it tick. I don't know why. Maybe I'm just weird like that.

Loving: This was a no-brainer. I'm on break, and it's fantastic! Plus the weather is amazing down here (and at home apparently, but we're wearing shorts here). For an example of how different this week is compared to last Monday, let me give you a side-by-side of Monday and Saturday for Keagan!

Seriously, people. This is only 5 days apart and in the same place! VA weather is crazy!

But anyway, we drove down to GA yesterday at 2 am (because Keagan was supposed to sleep the whole way and we wanted to surprise my parents and go to church with them. We got in around 9:30, rushed to my parents house to quickly shower and change, then we made it in time for the worship service. They were so surprised (and I love a good surprise)!! I wish I'd taken a picture with all of us, but we didn't get it together. Still, doesn't Keagan look adorable in his suit?
It was a little rainy outside, so we opted for a picture by the cross. Not the most ideal backdrop, but I think we look good!

Thinking: My secret pal really outdid his/herself at work this week! I got a basket with some goodies, including a B&N gift card! Now I just have to figure out what books I want to buy. Decisions, decisions. Any recommendations?

Wanting: I didn't get enough Reese's eggs this Easter. Maybe there are still some at the grocery stores? I doubt it though. Do they make any like that for the summer months, or do I have to wait until the pumpkins start coming out for Halloween? I don't think I can survive that long! I vote a flag shaped Reese for 4th of July!

Needing: Ever since I reached my goal weight last month, I've been eating what I want and just working out. Now, I'm doing some intense workouts (on week 4 of Insanity, and I only missed yesterday out of the 24ish days I've been doing it), so I don't feel too guilty. However, I think it would help if I cut back on some sweets and made sure I was eating more fruits and veggies like I was when I was trying to lose the weight.

Advice: This goes right along with the last two. I gained almost 50 pounds when I got pregnant last year, and it took a full year to get back down to a size I was pleased with (I did start out a little underweight, so I didn't go all the way back to pre-baby weight). Now I don't want to lose anymore, but I have some major belly fat. I'm scared that I'm fighting genetics, but I'm busting my butt trying to get fit. If I had not sat around and eaten everything in sight (or at least got up and walked some while I was pregnant instead of being so lazy), I think this would have been a much easier journey. I'm determined that next time around I will be more prepared.

Sorry that NONE of this post had anything to do with teaching, but I'm on break and don't want to think about teaching. Come back tomorrow for tons of ideas, and go link up with Farley right now!
